Easy Propagation

Welcome to Easy Propagation. My goal is to help take some of the guess work out of plant propagation. When I first started propagating plant material, information was weak or general in nature. I was forced to experiment with soil media, misting systems, sun, shade and plant variety.

The main ingredients for larger scale propagation is misting system, heat and humidity. Yes, you can grow cutting in a terrarium, but I am concentrating on larger quantities in this website.

You can grow a larger number of plants in a relatively small space. Although a greenhouse is nice, it's not necessary. I have seen large numbers of plants grown in hoop houses (PVC Pipe bent over like a upside down U and covered with clear plastic) and in large cold frame set ups.

The three easiest types of propagation is Seed, Plant Division and Cuttings. All three are very inexpensive to do and take minimal space.

The best part of plant propagation is that most of the plant material that you need can be found in your own backyard. Here is a quick list of some of the easier plants to use for cuttings:

Forsythia

Crape Myrtles

Weigela

Butterfly Bush

Hydrangea

Lantana

Loropetalum

Vina Major

Chocolate Vine

Azaleas

Barberry

Snowball bush
